I've been living away from home at my high school in Montezuma for almost six months now, and things may have changed back home, or they might not have, but the memories are stil the same, fun and beautiful memories.

story from the futre>> the sad part“Mom…how come you never went to devghat beach when you were young??” “We didn’t have beaches back then honey.” “Are you like one of these climate refugees we’re learning about at school?? Where do you come from mom??” “Honey, I used to live here. We just didn’t have beaches back then.” “Well that’s odd, how could an entire beach have disappeared during your school days?” On my recent trip to Darjeeling, I was in an intensive training for 15 days, and had about 3-4 extra days to tour the city. In the short period of time that I spent in the city, I noticed two prominent things. First, that the use of plastic bags is banned in Darjeeling. From big shopping malls to small street side shops, all either use paper bags or cloth bags. Second, the narrow roads of Darjeeling are over crowded with not-so-new SUVs that throw out thick black (and I’m not exaggerating here, it really is thick and black!) smoke.

INTERNATIONALO DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION
Oct 18, 2009
My first blog- my thoughtsGlobal warming and climate change, these words have become very familiar now, even clichéd! My siblings studying in grade 6 have heard of it, my grandma’s heard about it. I bet the pani- puri wala (street vendor) has heard these four words as well. And why wouldn’t they? They’re mentioned everywhere- the newspapers, the media, the graffiti on the walls, even on people’s tee shirts, bags and caps! But how good is hearing? I wonder if they know, at least the reasons because of which these topics attract so much attention world wide. And I also wonder if people know that industries alone do not raise the carbon levels, the small things we do, might contribute a large part as well. I intend to know more through research and through friends, so people, let’s get going! |
